This cross marker at Camiguin island just to the west of Surigao is a one of a kind in the world and serves to mark the resting place of the old capital of Camiguin founded during the Spanish era. The old capital is said to have sunk into the ocean from several volcanic eruptions by nearby Mount Vulcan. Fairly recent eruptions in the 1950's have sunk to area to another 20 feet in depth. The large cross was built in 1982 over solidified lava to mark the grave of the ancestral people of Camguin. The spot is now a renowned diving site.

The photo above comes from travel photographer Ferdz Decena's Camiguin trip where he also covered the beautiful Katibawasan Falls.
